Dry containers

Sea containers (dry cargo containers)

Sea containers are most widely used in transporting and logistic. 20 foot (20’) containers are mainly used for heavy cargo with denselyload (components and spare parts of industrial production, some type ofcommerce cargos etc.). For lighter cargos – furniture, equipment, clothing, cosmetics, food, electronics etc. mainly are used 40 foot (40’) containers.

Refrigerated containers and GenSet

Refrigerated containers (Reefers)

Refrigerated containers or ref-containers – containers with thermo-insulation corpus, equipped with refrigeration unit which keepsref-container intern temperature in diapason from -25°C until +25°C. These containers are designed for transporting cargos and (or) storing cargos with certain temperature, such as perishable goods. Some ThermoKing model reefers can obtain low temperature as from -35°C as well.
Our company RS Container Group is offering reefer models produced by the main suppliers – Carrier, Thermo King, Starcool, and Daikin. In our opinion, these are currently mostly used types of reefer machineries. Year of production can fluctuate in the range of 2002-2020. Each producer has its own model lineup, mainly determined by the year of production and certain advantages and accents.

Carrier
Carrier has a long 30 year history and a lot of experience. They are reliable and offered in several modification. Normally it`s spare parts are mostly available and easy to find original and produced by alternative producers. Of course, the older model is, the more and cheaper spare parts can be found.
With years and improvement in technology Carrier present new models, features and machinery look. New compressor types are extremely productive but almost impossible to repair and must be changed in full, comparing to the older models. Carriers are good for static use and transportation.
Prices for this machinery are normally always higher, comparing to other producers.

Thermo King
Thermo King models are widely used and has relatively low repair costs. They are relatively resistant to the constant power fluctuations. Some models can produce low temperatures (declared range is -30/+30), partly due to the type of gas they are using and machinery in newer models. Special models can go even down till -60 degrees, but of course they are not cheap.
We would recommend to use older models of Thermo King for static work, not transportation, especially railway.

Daikin
Reefer containers, equipped with Daikin machinery are relatively not expensive. The same refers to the spare parts which together with their durability make Daikin highly attractive.
Defrosting process in Daikin models is made using hot gas, this system allows to limit extra heat from outside to the camera and reduces defrosting time.
Newer Daikin model (ZESTIA) has completely new engine and some “interesting” unique features.
We would not recommend to use this models for transportation of commodities which require positive temperatures, especially in the winter period, with low outside temperatures. This is a drawback of hot gas defrosting system. Daikin has promised to fix this problem in nearest future.

Starcool
Starcool is the “youngest” producer among these four. Company producing Starcool containers is the daughter company of globally largest reefer container carrier Maersk Line.
Starcool models are extremely economical, saving around (50% of energy) due to the special construction of compressors. Processors are simple and easy to use. Wide range of features and controllers, allowing to carry different types of products – flowers, fruits and vegetables.
Price is very competitive.
There is no really known problems with this machinery, may be except not very large spare part availability. We have heard about some problems with compressor frequency controller.

Main types of compressors used in modern reefer containers.
Reciprocating compressors or piston compressors – this type of compressor work much like an internal combustion engine. Of course there were no combustion stage as in the case of vehicle engines.
In case of piston compressors, they are loud and create considerable vibration. However these compressors can be fully dissembled, repaired in case of need, assembled and ready for work again.
Scroll compressors-these compressors are energy efficient and lightweight.
Scroll compressors use one fixed and one moving scrolls, coupled to the motor.
These type of compressors produces less noise and almost no vibration but in case of damage, which does not happen very often, has to be replaced fully, no repairs can be made.

Gensets (GenSet, diesel generator)

Genset – it is mobile (usually – diesel) electrical generator for refrigerated container. Usage of Genset allowes transporting or storing ref-containers without constant power supply. Usually Gensets are used when transporting on truck or railway platforms.

Container diesel generator is designed for continuous supply of electric power to a refrigerator or tank-container by car or rail transport. It is a two-assembled aggregate-diesel engine (with a personal fuel tank and cooling system) and a power generator (which issues the required 460 V for container).

Special containers

Special containers (Open Top, Hard Top, Flat Rack, Platform,Bulk, Ventilated)

Special containers are intended for transporting and storing nonstandard by size, weight and manners of transporting and storing cargo.

Office container

Office container (construction containers, modular office, sanitary containers)

Office ( or construction) containers are intended for use in construction and for temporary relocation of business or property – modular offices (office containers), construction wagons (cabins), sanitary containers, site containers, portacabins, containers of non-standard sizes etc.). Modules can be interconnected by creating non-standard office containers. RS Container Group offers the ability to modify sea containers into office containers, according to the needs of the customer.
